15th – 18th  2014 VENUE: VICTORIA GOLF & COUNTRY RESORT


July Pin Fernando Grand Prix, Division A & B was played at Victoria Golf & Country Resort from 15th – 18th July 2014.  The course was in excellent condition. There was a strong wind throughout the Tournament.
36 Golfers took part from Victoria Golf Club, Royal Colombo Golf Club , Diyathalawa Golf Club (Army), Sandy Bay Golf Links (Navy).  Sandiya Kumari from Victoria, who played in the B Division  was the only Lady Golfer playing in the Grand Prix.
Division A winner was Priya Hemantha, who shot a 9 over par 301 to win by 5 shots from G.M.Pradeep Kumara. Priya had an excellent 3 under par 70 in the 3rd round.
 Division B was won by Praveen Raj from Victoria Golf Club. Sandiya Kumari from Victoria played very well to be placed 2nd ahead of all the other men golfers .

Mackwoods Sri Lanka Ladies Stroke Play Championship 2014

Mackwoods Sri Lanka Ladies Stroke Play Championship organized by Sri Lanka Golf Union was played at Royal Colombo Golf Club from 21st to 23rd July 2014. This Championship which is the foremost Ladies Stroke Play Tournament in the Country has been Sponsored by Mackwoods (PVT) LTD  for the last 40 years.  MoM  caring the baby at RCGC
23 Ladies participated this year. For the first time, four Lady Golfers from Diyathalawa Golf Club participated. This Club which is over 60 years old belongs to the Sri Lanka Army.
Niloo Jayathilake won this year’s Championship for the 3rd  time. She played steady golf throughout the 3 rounds to comfortably beat Kishani Vethavinayakam by 10 shots.
Niloo also won the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Challenge Trophy, which is for the best Nett Score over 3 rounds. Niloo tied with Niranjalie Amarasooriya, but won as she had a better last round.

Mackwoods Sri Lanka Ladies Stroke Play Championship 2014

Mackwoods Sri Lanka Ladies Stroke Play Championship organized by Sri Lanka Golf Union was played at Royal Colombo Golf Club from 21st to 23rd July 2014. RCGC July monthly medal sponsored by RCGC

A fine gesture by RCGC to honor the tournament winners on the same day, after the  game  at the cost of the club. Despite the out side sponsors taking a back seat (due to on-going renovation of the second-nine greens), the excitement of the game remained intact.




In the evening at RCGC, the cozy Governors bar was packed with players who came to say "well done!". Special mention must be made of the A Division winner, Prashan Peiris, still a young school-going lad. Well done! We wish him a great golfing future ahead. Keep beating all the uncles!
On the side lines, former national cricketer, Sidath was giving a tip on how best one can put when the putting stance is correct. He said for the right-handed golfer: ensure the ball is right above the left eye for a consistent putt. Following this new find, he made 35 putts to clinch the Runner-up prize in Division A.
