Chanaka Perera19 year old school boy from D.S.Senanayaka College was awarded Douglas de Silva Scholarship for the Most Promising Young Golfer for 2013-14, at the Royal Colombo Golf Course on 8th July. The Award was made jointly by Sri Lanka Golf Union President Lal Dias and Son of Douglas de Silva’s son Dilhan de Silva. This Scholarship was the Brain Child of his two sons Dilhan and Herin de Silva. Douglas de Silva was a Keen Golfer who was much into charity and helping promising Golfers reach the top. Interestingly Timothy de Silva, the duo’s grandfather was the first the Sri Lanka amateur to win the local Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship, the world second oldest amateur golf tournament, in 1923.

The de Silva Brothers wants this to be catalyst for many more individuals and companies to give more scholarship to young Golfers who are economically less privileged  young talented Golfers.

This year Chalitha Pushpika , R . Sureshan and Chanaka Perera which the final 3 to be considered. Finally Chanaka was selected taking to consideration is current handicap of two and his commitment to the game.

Golf affords a carrier for youngsters unlike other sports whereby professional Golfers could play in Tournaments and earn prize money in to their 60’s   or take to Coaching Golf.
